The Morning Decision: Is My Child Too Sick?
10 Tips for a Healthy School Year
Staying healthy is a team effort! Here are ten ways you can help your student have their best year yet:
- Stay Up to Date: Ensure immunizations, dental visits, and physicals are current before the year begins.
- Know Your Nurse: Get to know your child’s Certified School Nurse (listed on our homepage).
- Prioritize Sleep: Depending on age, 8–12 hours of rest per night is recommended.
- Communicate Medical Needs: Update the nurse on life-threatening allergies, asthma, or seizure disorders. Keep any school-day prescriptions refilled and current.
- Focus on Vision: Remind your child to bring their glasses or contacts every single day.
- Share Changes: Alert the teacher or nurse to any health changes or family shifts that might affect your child's ability to learn.
- Eat Well: Choose nutritious, whole foods for school lunches and snacks.
- Limit Screens: Reducing screen time works wonders for a child's eyesight, mental health, and overall well-being.
- Keep Moving: Incorporate physical fitness into your child’s routine before or after school.
- Rest When Needed: When your child is truly sick, keeping them home is the best way to help them recover and protect their classmates.
